Newy 87.8 FM – Rising Sydney stayer Aethelwulf is the $1.50 TAB favourite for Friday's Sharp Office Newcastle Gold Cup, ahead of the in-form So You Are at $3.40.

Aethelwulf, to be ridden by Zac Lloyd, has won three successive races at Kembla, Canterbury and Rosehill. The son of Japanese sire Saxon Warrior has won four from six starts, including his debut win at Newcastle by 5.17 lengths in June.

Part-owner Roger White, a former Novocastrian, represented Australia at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Norway. Aethelwulf is also the $3.50 favourite for the Group 2 Metropolitan at Randwick on October 3 and is a $34 chance in Melbourne Cup nominations.

So You Are, an easy winner of the Randwick Tatts Cup on September 5, is in career-best form, while Bella Montagna is the $8 third favourite.

In the Cameron Handicap, the Kris Lees stable has booked Jason Collett to ride Tavi Time ($31), who has won 10 races from 32 starts including two from four at Newcastle. Fully Lit ($14), Vivy Air ($23), favourite Mr. Miller ($2.40) and Althoff ($3.80) are also entered.

The Tibbie Stakes features local mares Churchill's Choice ($7), from the Nathan Doyle stable, and Infancy ($8.50), who was narrowly beaten in the Group 3 Show County at Randwick on August 22.
