Newy 87.8 FM – Communities across Cessnock, Maitland and Singleton are being invited to have their say on the draft Structure Plan for the Anambah to Branxton Regionally Significant Growth Area, now on public exhibition for six weeks.
The exhibition follows resolutions from Cessnock City Council, Maitland City Council and Singleton Council.
The growth area spans about 15,000 hectares across the three local government areas and sits along major transport routes including the New England Highway, Hunter Expressway and Main Northern Rail Line.
The Structure Plan implements a key action from the NSW Government's Hunter Regional Plan 2041 and was funded by the Australian Government through the Housing Support Program.
It outlines a long-term framework to guide future land uses, infrastructure needs, environmental considerations, transport connections and residential growth. The plan will not change existing land zoning or approve development applications.
Cessnock City Mayor Dan Watton encouraged the community to read the draft plan, saying community input "has a key role in achieving the best possible results".
Maitland Mayor Phillip Penfold said the plan "is about planning infrastructure alongside growth, rather than catching up after it occurs".
Singleton Mayor Sue Moore said the collaborative approach aimed to ensure future communities were properly supported to thrive.
