Newy 87.8 FM – City of Newcastle has completed the $6.5 million upgrade of the Bathers Way shared pathway between Merewether Ocean Baths and Bar Beach.
The 1.2 kilometre section features a widened 4-metre path, new seating, improved lighting and 2,500 new native plants.
Work on the project began in March 2026 and finished ahead of the summer season.
The Lord Mayor's office said the completed section links to the existing pathway at Empire Park.
With the latest section finished, the full 11-kilometre coastal route from Merewether to Stockton is now more than 80 per cent complete.
The pathway is expected to be used by more than one million people each year.
