Child dies in Swansea house fire, woman seriously injured

Newy 87.8 FM – A child has died following a house fire at Swansea in Lake Macquarie on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Northcote Avenue, Swansea, about 1.30pm on Thursday 20 August 2026 following reports of a fire.

Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District arrived and found a house well alight.

NSW Police have been told the house was occupied by a woman aged in her 80s and two young children.

One of the children was located during a search of the home and was unable to be revived. The other child is understood to not be injured.

The woman was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition suffering burns.

A teenage boy who attempted to gain entry to the property was taken to hospital for treatment of a leg injury.

Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters remain on scene, and road closures in the area remain in place.
