Civic Theatre to host first-ever paranormal investigation nights in September

Newy 87.8 FM – The Civic Theatre will host Paranormal Investigation Nights for the first time in its history, giving visitors the chance to search for spirits said to haunt the historic Newcastle venue.

Three sessions will be held on 28, 29 and 30 September, with tickets going on sale tomorrow. Each experience runs for two-and-a-half hours, beginning with a short historical introduction by a Civic Theatre guide before being led by Newcastle Ghost Tours.

Guests will use special equipment including a spirit box, an electronic sweep-frequency radio used to attempt real-time communication with ghosts, and a trip wire sensor designed to detect invisible energy changes or movement in areas rarely accessed by the public.

Civic Theatre Executive Manager Leonie Wallace said the almost 100-year-old venue has long been surrounded by rumour and speculation about the spirits of former staff and patrons, including a supposedly friendly ghost nicknamed Joe, said to brush past staff and to have warned a former Deputy Lord Mayor about the 1989 earthquake on the main stage.

Newcastle Ghost Tours CEO Renata Daniel said the theatre is one of the Hunter's most requested locations for paranormal nights.

The theatre is also expanding its Behind the Curtain backstage tours, with seven additional sessions on 28, 29 and 30 September on sale tomorrow, including one wheelchair accessible session. The first two sessions launched earlier this year were fully booked within hours.
