Newy 87.8 FM – Hunter residents are invited to a joint Emergency Management and Community Resilience Expo at the Maitland Showground on Saturday 14 November, hosted by Dungog, Maitland and Port Stephens councils.
The free event runs from 9am to 2pm with live entertainment and food, giving residents the chance to learn from emergency services and government agencies that protect local communities before, during and after emergencies.
The Expo will feature practical displays, live demonstrations and interactive activities focused on preparedness for natural hazards including bushfires, floods and storms.
Visitors can connect with emergency responders including NSW Police, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, ask questions and receive practical steps to keep themselves, their families and properties safe.
Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold said preparing for emergencies is a shared responsibility between the community, all levels of government and supporting agencies. "We want our residents to feel informed, connected and confident in the services that are always here to help when needed most," he said.
Dungog Shire Mayor Digby Rayward said the Expo gives residents the chance to "better understand their local risks and pick up practical advice they can take home and put into action".
Port Stephens Mayor Leah Anderson said emergencies don't stop at local government borders, encouraging all residents to attend.
