Newy 87.8 FM – Newcastle Knights fans are travelling to the sold-out 2026 NRL Grand Final against the Sydney Roosters at Accor Stadium on Sunday 4 October, with extra trains from Newcastle running at least every 30 minutes from 10am.
Transport for NSW has rescheduled Sunday trackwork on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line and removed freight trains from the line to maximise passenger capacity, with extra return trains after the match.
Sydney Trains Chief Executive Matt Longland said there would be "158 extra suburban services and 30 extra Hunter and Central Coast services" for fans, with additional Hunter Line services running via Newcastle Interchange. Public transport travel is included in the match ticket.
A sold-out crowd of 80,000 is expected at Accor Stadium, where gates open at 1pm. The NRLW Grand Final between the Roosters and Broncos kicks off at 4pm, ahead of the NRL kick-off at 7:30pm. It is Newcastle's first grand final since 2001.
At home, a free ticketed live site at McDonald Jones Stadium in Broadmeadow has also sold out, with 20,000 expected. Gates open at 3:30pm, with free shuttle buses from Newcastle CBD, Charlestown/Belmont, Glendale, Wallsend and Mayfield from 4:45pm. Ferries are extended to midnight and light rail will run every 10 minutes from 4pm to midnight.
The team bus departed the Knights Centre of Excellence at 9:30am Saturday, travelling past McDonald Jones Stadium before joining the M1 via Wallsend.
