Hunter Joint Organisation joins national summit on regional renewable energy future

Newy 87.8 FM – The Hunter Joint Organisation has joined regional leaders from across the country at the Re-Alliance Regional Leaders Summit 2026, where discussions focused on the future of renewable energy across regional Australia.
Conversations at the summit covered opportunities being unlocked through community benefit agreements, along with considerations around worker accommodation, water security, biodiversity, biosecurity and leadership through the energy transition.
The organisation said the agenda closely reflected many of the opportunities and challenges shaping the Hunter.
A highlight of the program was a visit to the MacIntyre Wind Farm, offering insights into how major renewable energy projects can support regional development, local jobs and community outcomes.
A recurring theme throughout the summit was the importance of ensuring the benefits of renewable energy projects flow back into local communities. Discussions explored how community benefit funds and increased investment in local infrastructure and land management can help rural and regional communities adapt and thrive.
Discussions also highlighted the role the energy transition can play in supporting the long-term future of regional areas, with renewable energy projects creating new opportunities for local employment, attracting investment and providing reasons for future generations to build their careers closer to home.
As one of Australia's key energy regions, the Hunter has an important role to play. The summit provided an opportunity to learn from the experiences of other regions and explore practical solutions that deliver lasting benefits for communities.
