Newy 87.8 FM – The Hunter Region Botanic Gardens is celebrating 40 years of creating a place for the community to connect with nature, learn and enjoy the region.

The milestone was marked by the Hunter Joint Organisation, which congratulated the Gardens on what it described as 40 incredible years.

Run entirely by volunteers, the Gardens are described as a remarkable regional community and tourism asset, providing value to people right across the Hunter.

The Hunter Joint Organisation said growing the region's tourism offering is an important advocacy priority as the Hunter looks to leverage the opportunities of the new Newcastle International Airport.

The organisation added that places like the Gardens strengthen community, connection and liveability, a strategic priority shared by the Hunter's 10 councils.

"A huge thank you to every volunteer. What a legacy for the Hunter!" the Hunter Joint Organisation said.

The Hunter Joint Organisation also acknowledged the country and history of the traditional custodians of the lands upon which it works, paying respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
