Hunter River Forum brings councils and scientists together on catchment resilience

Newy 87.8 FM – The Hunter Joint Organisation has attended the Hunter River Forum, an event exploring nature-based solutions to improve the health and resilience of the Hunter River catchment.
The forum was hosted by Hunter Local Land Services and brought together local councils, Traditional Owners, landholders, scientists and community groups.
Discussions focused on practical measures including riverbank recovery, riparian zone management, water quality improvements, and addressing erosion and climate impacts.
The Hunter JO said taking part in collaborative regional forums supports the priorities of its Strategic Plan 2035 around environmental sustainability and resilience.
By strengthening partnerships and sharing knowledge on climate adaptation, flood resilience and waterway health, the organisation said it is helping its ten member councils identify place-based solutions that better protect communities, landscapes and infrastructure from future climate and natural hazard risks.
"Great to see so much local knowledge, expertise, and collaboration in one room, all working towards a healthier, more resilient Hunter River catchment," the Hunter JO said in a statement.
The organisation acknowledged the country and history of the traditional custodians of the lands on which it works, paying respects to Elders past, present and emerging of the region and of Australia.
