Newy 87.8 FM – Maitland City Council has released its winter school holiday program, running from Monday 6 to Friday 17 July, with free and affordable activities for children and families across Maitland libraries, Maitland Regional Art Gallery and Maitland Aquatic Centre.
Maitland libraries are celebrating 80 years of library service with a program across all four branches. Children can work as a librarian for a day, try paper embroidery and nature-inspired leaf art, join a Dungeons & Dragons adventure or attend crafty cinema sessions.
The library program also includes NAIDOC Week events featuring storytime and weaving with Aunty Michelle, along with Little Golden Books storytimes. New HSC 'lock-in' sessions for Year 11 and 12 students offer a quiet after-hours study space with Wi-Fi and light refreshments, including free pizza on selected Wednesdays at East Maitland Library. Most library events are free or $5.
At Maitland Regional Art Gallery, young people can learn stop-motion filmmaking in an Animation Workshop, while families can take part in a Family Clay Workshop. The Young Architects workshop returns for teens, and Spilling the Tea offers an inclusive space for queer-identifying young people aged 13 to 18.
Maitland Aquatic Centre is running a five-day intensive swimming and water safety program from 6 to 10 July, with learn-to-swim lessons across all skill levels. Inclusive sensory swim sessions are also available on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
