Newy 87.8 FM – Muswellbrook Shire Council has accepted the resignation of General Manager Derek Finnigan, ending a career of more than four decades with the council and the Muswellbrook Shire community.
Mr Finnigan began as a plant operator in the council's Works Depot and went on to serve in a wide range of operational, infrastructure and senior leadership roles.
The council said he made a significant contribution to the delivery and management of infrastructure and services across the Shire, bringing decades of practical experience and an exceptional understanding of the council, its operations and the community.
In a statement, the council said Mr Finnigan is known throughout the organisation and community for his kindness, humility, hard work and genuine dedication to the people of Muswellbrook Shire.
"Few people have given as much of their working life to this organisation and community," the council said, extending its gratitude for his 44 years of service.
Current Director of Economic Investment Shaelee Richards has been appointed acting General Manager until a permanent replacement is recruited.
Ms Richards brings more than 25 years of experience across local government, including executive leadership roles at Muswellbrook Shire Council, Maitland City Council and the City of Gold Coast.
Since 2022 she has led the council's economic development, governance and community portfolio and played a significant role in shaping its strategic direction.
