Newy 87.8 FM – Nominations are now open for Muswellbrook Shire Council's 2027 Australia Day Awards, with the community encouraged to recognise people who go above and beyond.
The awards recognise noteworthy contributions and outstanding achievements across community service, sport, sustainability, arts and culture, agriculture and other areas.
Mayor Jeff Drayton is encouraging residents to think about the people around them whose efforts deserve recognition.
"There are people right across our Shire who are always putting their hand up whether it's for their sporting club, a community group, their neighbours or just someone who needs a hand," Mayor Drayton said.
"They're usually not doing it because they want a thank you or any recognition. They do it because that's the kind of people they are."
"If you know someone who goes above and beyond, nominate them. Don't just assume someone else will."
Nominees must be Australian citizens and reside within the Muswellbrook Shire Council region. Contributions by individuals or groups must be voluntary and unpaid, and nominees should have contributed significantly to the community or demonstrated leadership, innovation or creativity.
Nominations can be completed online through Council's website, with hard-copy forms available from the Muswellbrook Shire Council Administration Building at Campbell's Corner, 60-82 Bridge Street, Muswellbrook.
Nominations close midnight 27 November 2026, with the awards presented at the Australia Day Award Ceremony on Tuesday 26 January 2027.
