Newy 87.8 FM – City of Newcastle councillors have resolved to change the order of future council meeting agendas, giving priority to Notices of Motion that deal with matters primarily within the council's own responsibilities.
The change was carried at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 25 August 2026, under a Notice of Motion titled "Advocacy versus core services", which was supported as amended.
Under the resolution, the Chief Executive Officer is requested to order future agendas so that Notices of Motion dealing with matters primarily within City of Newcastle's responsibilities are considered first, in the order submitted. All remaining Notices of Motion would then follow, also in the order submitted.
Unlike most other items at the meeting, the motion was not listed as unanimous in the council's published meeting summary. A vote breakdown was not provided, and the council notes its summary page is not a full record of resolutions.
The 25 August meeting also carried Notices of Motion on the federal "Federation Compact" for local government, illegal vehicle usage, and Newcastle Airport's "Airport of the Year 2026" award.
