Newy 87.8 FM – Newcastle Writers Festival has launched a new project called Read the Room, a series of monthly reading parties to be held in venues across Newcastle.
The project was launched at the Newcastle Ocean Baths ahead of the festival's 2026 weekend.
Organisers say the events offer a relaxed afternoon of reading, guided conversation and community connection. Attendees are encouraged to bring their current book, discover new favourites and enjoy the atmosphere among fellow readers.
Registration for the events is free, but is required to secure a seat. Refreshments will be available to purchase at each venue.
The festival says details of upcoming Read the Room events will be shared through its newsletter and social media channels.
Newcastle Writers Festival has acknowledged the Awabakal and Worimi peoples, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the festival takes place, recognising their continuing connection to land, water and community, and paying respects to Elders past, present and emerging, extending that respect to all First Nations people attending the festival.
