Newcastle Writers Festival announces four-event Spring Program for 2026

Newy 87.8 FM – Newcastle Writers Festival has announced a four-event Spring Program across September and October 2026, headlined by evenings with Suzie Miller and Andrew O'Hagan, with tickets now on sale.

An Evening with Suzie Miller, hosted by Rosemarie Milsom, will be held on Thursday 1 October from 7.30pm to 8.30pm at Newcastle Theatre Company's Laneway Theatre, 90 De Vitre Street, Lambton. Tickets are $35 plus a $1.38 booking fee, with the bar opening at 6.30pm.

Miller is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter and novelist based between London and Sydney who practised human rights law before writing full time. The conversation will centre on her new novel Inter Alia, about an eminent High Court Judge forced to reckon with her professional life and her role as wife, mother, friend and feminist when a crisis hits home.

Andrew O'Hagan will appear at Newcastle Library's Lovett Gallery, 15 Laman Street, on Wednesday 14 October from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, speaking to Milsom about his career and his most recent novel, Caledonian Road. Tickets are $38 plus a $1.45 booking fee. O'Hagan has been nominated three times for the Booker Prize and is Editor at Large of the London Review of Books.

The program also includes a free Read the Room event at LOLAS on Darby Street on 12 September, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm, and the announcement of the $5000 Fresh Ink Emerging Writers Prize on 31 October at Newcastle Library. Both require registration.
