Newy 87.8 FM – The NSW Government is investing $350,000 to expand the Rehab In The Home service across southern Lake Macquarie, allowing eligible patients to receive rehabilitation care in their own homes.
The service, delivered by Hunter New England Local Health District, provides in-home medical rehabilitation and reduces the need for patients to travel to appointments.
The funding comes from the 2026–27 State Budget and will support allied health professionals from the district to deliver the expanded community-based services.
Services will include community orthopaedic rehabilitation and discharge supports for patients returning home from Central Coast hospitals.
The expansion builds on nurse practitioner-led wound care, continence and aged care outreach clinics rolled out in early 2025, which the government says have seen increasing demand.
The announcement was made in a ministerial media release published on 7 September 2026 by the Minister for Health and Minister for Regional Health, Ryan Park, with Member for Swansea Yasmin Catley, Member for Lake Macquarie Greg Piper and Hunter New England Local Health District Chief Executive Tracey McCosker also on the record.
The government says the 2026–27 Budget delivered a $10.3 billion boost to NSW health services, which it describes as the largest increase to the health budget in the state's history.
