Newy 87.8 FM – An inaugural Pre-loved Book Sale at the Diocesan Resource Centre has raised $4,672 for CatholicCare Social Services Hunter-Manning.

Since opening on 8 July, the sale run by the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle has seen 1,423 items sold, with proceeds supporting CatholicCare's community programs.

Between 2,500 and 3,000 books and resources have been made available, including religious and non-religious titles covering a broad range of topics. Visitors have come from across the Diocese to browse the collection, with some travelling from outside diocesan boundaries.

The Diocesan Resource Centre has received many generous book donations over the years, but not all of them could be accommodated within the library's collection. Rather than storing the books away, staff saw an opportunity to share them with the community while supporting a worthy cause.

"We've been amazed by the quality of books available. Some titles would normally sell for well over $100, yet people have been able to pick them up at a fraction of the cost," said Diocesan Resource Centre Librarian Mary O'Connor.

Plenty of titles remain available, all priced at $2 each.

The book sale will continue at the Diocesan Resource Centre on Mondays and Fridays from 10am to 5pm until the end of August.
