Newy 87.8 FM – Southern Beaches Rugby Club in Gateshead has been confirmed as an official Outdoor Training Venue for the Men's Rugby World Cup 2027, World Rugby announced on 25 September.
The Lake Macquarie club, whose home ground is Ernie Calland Oval at 1A Willow Road, Gateshead, is one of three venues listed under the Newcastle | Awabakal-Worimi host city, alongside No. 2 Sportsground and the University of Newcastle.
The announcement covers 29 outdoor training venues for the tournament's 24 participating teams, spanning NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia.
Each team will establish a base in the host city where it is competing during each match week, with sole access to its allocated training venue ahead of each pool and knock-out match. Fans will have opportunities to watch open training sessions during the pool phase.
Lake Macquarie City Council said the city "will host at least one international rugby squad in the lead-up to next year's Men's Rugby World Cup, creating flow-on economic, tourism and sporting benefits for the city."
Newcastle is a host city for the tournament, with four pool matches to be played at Newcastle Stadium across three weeks.
The 11th edition of the Men's Rugby World Cup runs from 1 October to 13 November 2027. A 48-hour Visa Priority Ticket Sale runs from 12:00pm AEST 28 September to 12:00pm AEST 30 September 2026, with remaining tickets on general sale from 1 October 2026.
