Southern Beaches Rugby Club named official Rugby World Cup 2027 training venue

Newy 87.8 FM – Southern Beaches Rugby Club at Gateshead has been named by World Rugby as one of 29 official Outdoor Training Venues for the Men's Rugby World Cup 2027.
The Lake Macquarie club is one of three venues listed under the Newcastle Host City, alongside No. 2 Sportsground and the University of Newcastle.
World Rugby confirmed the 29 venues on 25 September across the tournament's seven Host Cities – Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sydney and Townsville – for the 24 participating teams.
Each team will establish a dedicated Team Base in the Host City where it is competing each match week, with sole access to its allocated training venue before every pool and knockout match. Fans will be able to watch open training sessions during the pool phase.
All 24 teams have completed site visits to their match venues and Team Bases across Australia.
Rugby World Cup 2027 Managing Director Chris Stanley said the venues show "the depth and quality of the high-performance facilities Australia has to offer".
Lake Macquarie City Council says the city will host at least one international rugby squad in the lead-up to the tournament, which runs from 1 October to 13 November 2027.
A 48-hour Visa Priority Ticket Sale runs from 12:00pm AEST on 28 September to 12:00pm AEST on 30 September, with remaining tickets on sale from 1 October 2026.
