Healthscope to be split among four operators, Calvary taking 14 hospitals

Newy 87.8 FM – Healthscope's receivers announced on 14 September 2026 that the hospital group will be broken up, with 25 hospitals and its centralised services platform divided among four operators.
Not-for-profit Calvary Health Care will take 14 hospitals, with the remainder going to Pacific Equity Partners-backed Healthe Care, ACURIO Health and KnG Group.
The Newcastle Herald reports Calvary's share includes Newcastle Private Hospital at New Lambton Heights and Hunter Valley Private Hospital at Shortland. Hunter Valley Private has served the Hunter community for more than 60 years and has been part of Healthscope since 2015.
Receiver Keith Crawford said the announcement "delivers on our commitments on continuity of hospital services and protecting jobs". Calvary CEO Damien Bruce spoke for the consortium, and the Herald reports Calvary will take on Healthscope's head office and manage the transfer of hospitals to the other operators.
Healthscope entered receivership in May 2025 after owner Brookfield withdrew support, with McGrathNicol appointed to oversee the sale process. The group has roughly 14,000 frontline staff.
Northern Beaches Hospital was transferred to NSW Health on 29 April 2026, and National Capital Private Hospital was farewelled ahead of its transition to Ramsay Health Care in August 2026.
The Herald reports the deal is targeted for completion by 30 November 2026, with ACCC and FIRB approvals still being sought.
