Sold-out Hunter iF Innovators Lunch showcases region's push for economic diversification

Newy 87.8 FM – Mayors and local government leaders attended Friday's sold-out Hunter iF Innovators Lunch, an event highlighting the innovation taking place across the Hunter region.

The lunch served as the official warm-up event for the 2026 Hunter Innovation Festival Roadshow, with fireside conversations between local government leaders and founders reflecting this year's Festival theme, "Yes, And…".

The Hunter Joint Organisation, which reported on the event, said economic diversification is one of its highest advocacy priorities as the region prepares for the expected decline in global coal demand.

The organisation said the afternoon reinforced the message that innovation is not just about technology, but about backing people, building partnerships and creating the conditions for great ideas to become thriving businesses.

It said local councils have an important role to play in that journey, and that by supporting innovation and working alongside industry, councils help create environments where businesses can grow, jobs can be created and regional economies can diversify.

According to the Hunter Joint Organisation, the Hunter's future is already being built through innovation, and continued collaboration between entrepreneurs, industry, councils and government will be key to ensuring that future is diverse, resilient and locally driven.
