Newy 87.8 FM – Newcastle Permanent says a debit card payments issue that caused some transactions to appear twice over the Father's Day weekend has been resolved and impacted accounts have been amended.

A banner on the bank's website confirms the incident occurred on Sunday 6 September 2026 and states "The Debit Card payments issue has been resolved".

In a statement, the bank said a weekend processing issue caused some transactions to appear twice, adding: "This was limited to debit card transactions only."

The bank said the issue was identified on Sunday morning and resolved that evening, with updates provided to customers via its website, app and internet banking.

Newcastle Permanent apologised and said it is rectifying its own fees that were inadvertently applied as a result of the glitch.

The bank has not disclosed how many customers were affected or the cause of the fault.

Newcastle Permanent is the retail brand of the Newcastle-headquartered Newcastle Greater Mutual Group, with customers across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Maitland and the wider Hunter.

It is not the first such incident for the bank, which resolved a similar duplicate-transaction card glitch in October 2024.

Customers needing further support are directed to the bank's webchat or to phone 13 19 87.
