Newy 87.8 FM – Muswellbrook Shire Council has launched an improved Bulky Waste Service, giving eligible households two bulky waste entitlements each financial year and more choice in how they dispose of large household items.
The service, developed in response to community feedback, lets residents choose between Waste Disposal Vouchers and kerbside Bulky Waste Pickups.
Mayor Jeff Drayton said the changes give residents more choice in managing their bulky waste. "Some people would prefer to take their waste directly to a facility when it suits them, while others need the convenience of having it collected from the kerb," he said.
Vouchers can be used at the Muswellbrook Waste and Recycling Facility for up to 300 kilograms of eligible waste, or at Denman Domestic Waste Transfer Station for up to two cubic metres per visit.
Bulky Waste Pickups allow residents to book a kerbside collection of up to two cubic metres, roughly one 6 x 4 box trailer, with one of three collection zones serviced each week and collection opportunities about every three weeks.
The service is available to residential properties receiving Council's domestic waste collection and paying the Domestic Waste Management Charge, including eligible rural properties on the three-bin service. Business properties are not eligible.
Accepted items include furniture, whitegoods, scrap metal and certain electronic waste. Mattresses, tyres, building materials, garden waste and hazardous waste are not accepted.
Council is also introducing annual Mattress and Tyre Muster Days, with one event each in Muswellbrook and Denman, with dates to be announced closer to the events.
Vouchers and pickup bookings are available now via Council's website or by contacting the Waste Services team on 02 6549 3700. Join the discussion on Facebook.
