Newy 87.8 FM – Motorists are being advised to allow extra travel time around Newcastle East today as the Strummingbird country music festival returns to the Newcastle Foreshore for 2026.

Live Traffic NSW reported the special event at 9:46am on Tuesday 13 October, affecting Wharf Road near Foreshore Park.

Pedestrians and traffic are expected to be heavier than usual on roads approaching the Newcastle Foreshore as attendees travel to and from the festival.

Hunter Street will be closed eastbound between Darby and Watt Streets, while Scott Street will be under stop/slow conditions.

Local roads will also be closed, including Watt Street, Nobbys Road, Pasha Way and Horseshoe Beach Road.

Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time and check signage in the area.

For those using public transport, light rail services will run every 7.5 minutes from 7am until midnight, and every 30 minutes until 1am.

Ferry services between Stockton and Queens Wharf will run to their regular timetable.

Commuters can check trackwork and travel alerts for train service disruption information, or plan their trip using the Transport NSW Trip Planner. Light rail and ferry information is available from Newcastle Transport.
